Numbers

Sanskrit numerals

Vedic Numerology assigns every number from 1 to 9 to one astrological planet, and thus a certain mythological meaning in accordance with the meaning of the planet itself. With these meanings we can analyze cosmic impacts on our names, days, months, years, even phone and home numbers, influences that numbers dictate on our behaviour, characteristics of people and the world in which we live. Numbers are influenced by the qualities of their planetary/mythological attributes as well as the energy of the universe and our collective consciousness. This applies to one’s name, one’s age, or the year in which you’re living. It’s not about religion or fortune telling – it’s a simple science that merely looks at the influences that numbers have on the behaviours and characteristics of the material world and the people who live in it. Vedic Numerology is a sacred way to examine the wheel of karma, and figure out how we want to interact with it. It’s a small contribution to the mysterious order of the universe.

Greek alphabet and Hebrew alephbeth, numerical values, names and transliteration

As a means to decipher Glagolitic script I also used the disciplines such as Gematria and Isopsephy. Those   two expressions are in fact synonyms, or let’s say that they are quite similar. Gematria is kabbalistic method of assigning numerical value to a word or phrase, in the belief that words or phrases with identical numerical values bear some relation to each other, or bear some relation to the number itself and is based on the study of Tree of Life. On the contrary, Isopsephy is the practice of adding up the number values of the letters in a word to form a single number. The early Greeks used letters of the alphabet in everyday arithmetic and geometry, to see numbers in words, and to write with an awareness of the numerical dimension of words. Hebrew and Greek systems are based on a fact that their scripts have no special symbols for numbers, but the numbers are written with letters. Each letter has its numerical value, so by adding the numbers of the letters we can get a number of the whole word.

Kabbalistic theory of creation, cosmogony, explains that everything was created from the primary principle called AIN, nothing. AIN is absolutely nothing, the absence of anything.
Nothing, AIN, is also infinite, AIN SVP, nothing like something, and gradually turns into AIN SVP AVR, infinite light, which does not mean that this is the simple opposite of darkness but rather the original vibration that enables the creation.
These three principles are called the Veils of Negativity, Negative Existence, non existence or un-manifested. They are as three concentric circles, rings encircling the entire Universe, primordial void from which the concentration of infinite light into one point made the first Sephira Kether. Therefore, it can also be said that the Kether is actually a Malkuth of Negative Existence.
Sephira is the Hebrew word for the number, and the plural is the Sephiroth. Other Sephiroth resulted from “spillover” of the light from Kether to Malkuth, which descends like a Bolt of Lightning or a Fiery Sword, as the path of light through the Sephiroth is commonly calledBelow, or rather within three Veils of Negativity, the Tree of Life is created.

The Sefiroth, or the primal numbers are:

1 – Keter - Crown. Also known as: Upper Crown, Ayin (nothingness), Hokhmah Penimit (internal wisdom), Mahshavah Elohit (divine thought), Spirit of God, root of roots, mysterious wisdom, the (primitive) point, "white head," ancient, Will, Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh

Maybe the simplest explanation of the creation of Tree of Life is given by probably the greatest Gematricist of all times, Aleister Crowley, in his Naples Arrangement:

61=0. (the Hebrew word AIN counts 61)
Aleister Crowley 1875-1947
61 +146=0 as Undefined (Space).
61 +146+207=0 as basis of Possible Vibration.
1 - The Point: Positive yet indefinable,
2 - The Point: Distinguishable from other.
3 - The Point: Defined by relation to 2 others.
The Abyss - between Ideal and Actual.
4 - The Point: Defined by 3 co-ordinates: Matter.
5 - Motion (time)— the Womb; for only through Motion and in Time can events occur.
6 - The Point: now self-conscious, because able to define itself in terms of above.
7 - The Point's Idea of Bliss (Ananda).
8 - The Point's Idea of Thought (Chit).
9 - The Point's Idea of Being (Sat).
10 - The Point's Idea of Itself fulfilled in its complement, as determined by 7, 8 and 9.

Hebrew alephbeth with astrological atributions

Eliphas Levi aka Alphons Louis Constant 1810-1875
Besides Sephiroth, on the Tree of Life we can observe the paths that connect them. There are 22 paths, and each is assigned to one letter of the Hebrew alephbeth. In this way, every track reflects the portion of each Sephira that it connects, and each letter takes a certain mystical significance based on the location of the tracks. It may be noticed that Tarot cards have astrological meanings just like the Tree of Life paths, and therefore we can join each letter with certain Tarot card. First one who noticed the unusual association of Hebrew letters and Tarot cards was a French mystic Eliphas Levi, whose real name is Alphonse Louis Constant (1810-1875). He noticed that the letters correspond to astrological meanings of Tarot trump cards, which are also called Arcana Maior (lat. big secret), and in this way we can join each path on the Tree of Life to one Tarot card.

It should be noted that various Kabbalistic schools that gave different atributions of Sephiroth and/or paths associated Sephiroth in many different ways. The traditional look of the Tree of Life was shown in work called "Oedipus Aegyptiacus"  written by Athanasius Kircher, a German Jesuit from 17th century, and later the same version is used in the 19th century by Hermetic Society of the Golden Dawn, an association of European mystics. Aleister Crowley later gave remarks that the attributions of letters He and Tzaddi should be swapped, the theory that is proven with study of Glagolitic.
My intention is just to show the most important facts about Kabbalah, and the facts relevant for my work, so I won’t try to explain it completely. For the interested, I suggest one of the books from the wide variety of works written on the matter.
